Physician-Led Heart-Disease Risk Assessment and Prevention for Women

Heart disease is the leading cause of premature death in Canadian women, and risk shifts as hormones change through perimenopause and menopause. We assess it as part of your hormone program, where most of the risk is measurable and can be lowered.

The Program

Heart & Cardiovascular Health

Within the Her Vitality program, a physician looks at your heart-health risk, including the shifts around menopause and pregnancy history, and hormone and other therapies may help address it.

We focus on heart health across four areas.

01

Comprehensive risk assessment (standard and advanced markers)

02

Women-specific risk (menopause, pregnancy history)

03

Inherited risk, including lipoprotein(a)

04

A personalized prevention plan

What is included

Everything in the program

  • Physician assessment and blood-pressure review
  • Advanced bloodwork (LDL/ApoB, lipoprotein(a), metabolic markers)
  • Imaging such as coronary calcium where appropriate
  • A personalized prevention plan with clear targets
Why this matters

The transition is measurable

Heart disease is underdiagnosed and undertreated in women, and most risk is modifiable. The figures below reflect published research.

WOMEN WITH A RISK FACTOR

9 in 10
Have at least one heart-disease risk factor

9 in 10 women have at least one risk factor for heart disease.

CWHHA ATLAS

FIRST HEART-ATTACK RISK THAT IS MODIFIABLE

0%100%
~90%

Most risk can be identified early and lowered.

INTERHEART, THE LANCET

ELEVATED LIPOPROTEIN(a)

~1 in 5
Carry this inherited risk factor

About 1 in 5 adults carry elevated lipoprotein(a), missed by standard panels.
